Prism Mental Health Counseling provides virtual mental health counseling and psychotherapy for neurodivergent adolescents and adults in New York State. We specialize in affirming, strengths-based therapy for individuals with ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, or learning disabilities, as well as those navigating anxiety, depression, identity exploration, and life transitions such as college, employment, or relationships.
At Prism Mental Health Counseling, we empower neurodiverse individuals through thoughtful, affirming, strengths-based, and collaborative mental health care. Our work is grounded in trust, safety, authenticity, and mutual empathy, creating a supportive therapeutic space for clients to explore their lived experiences, clarify personal goals, and navigate life transitions.
We emphasize self-compassion, self-awareness, autonomy, and resilience while supporting clients in developing or adapting skills that foster meaningful growth and sustainable change, both internally and within the social, educational, and work systems that shape their lives.
Licensed Mental Health Counselor in New York
Dr. Caryn Leonard-Wilde (they/them), often referred to as Dr. C., holds a doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision and is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) as well as a nationally Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC).
With over 15 years of experience, Dr. C. provides mental health counseling to adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, identity development, education and employment transitions, and the transition into adulthood. Their work has primarily focused on individuals ages 18 to 25, and they currently provide therapy to consenting clients age 16 and older.
Dr. C.’s clinical experience includes supporting clients with executive functioning challenges, stress management, anxiety, depression, ASD, ADHD, communication differences, change, self-compassion and understanding, life skills, self-care and wellbeing, substance use concerns, and broader life transitions.
Dr. C. has advanced training and clinical expertise working with individuals who identify with or are exploring experiences related to Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Learning disabilities, Non-Verbal Learning disabilities, physical disability, employment stressors, school stressors, anxiety, depression, and queer sexual or gender identities. Across all work, Dr. C. approaches therapy from a strengths-based, neurodiversity-affirming perspective that honors each client as the expert in their own life and lived experience.

Virtual Therapy for Neurodivergent Adolescents and Adults
Prism Mental Health Counseling offers secure, virtual teletherapy services to adolescents and adults age 16 and older who are located in New York State at the time of service. Minors must be able to consent to treatment or have parental consent. The practice is particularly focused on working with adults on the autism spectrum and individuals with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence.
Therapy at Prism Mental Health Counseling is collaborative and relational. Dr. C. works alongside clients to clarify goals, identify barriers, and develop meaningful, sustainable change. Care is grounded in the belief that clients are the experts in their own lives and that healing and growth occur within relationships that prioritize safety, trust, authenticity, mutual empathy, and connection.
The therapeutic relationship offers a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore inner experiences, express thoughts and emotions freely, recognize patterns of behavior or relating, and develop practical strategies aligned with their values, needs, and goals.

Prism Mental Health Counseling offers individual online therapy tailored to the unique needs of each client. All services are provided virtually. In-person therapy is not offered at this time.
Diagnostic services are not provided. Clients can be referred to another treatment provider for assessment and/or diagnosis.

Prism Mental Health Counseling does not accept insurance at this time. Clients will receive a monthly invoice or superbill that may be submitted to their insurance provider for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Clients are responsible for verifying their own insurance benefits and reimbursement eligibility prior to beginning services.

All clients will receive a Good Faith Estimate of service and treatment-related costs in accordance with federal guidelines. Clients may request an updated estimate or a copy at any time.
Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are the financial responsibility of the client. Insurance does not reimburse for missed or late-cancelled appointments.

Yes. Prism Mental Health Counseling affirms and supports individuals across queer sexual and gender identities. Therapy is provided in a respectful, inclusive, and affirming space that honors each client’s identity and lived experience.
Individual therapy sessions are offered in 45-minute and 60-minute formats. All new clients are required to complete a one-hour intake session prior to beginning ongoing therapy.
